I sent some samples to my buddy tman who has access to test equipment that will tell you what the metals composition is. 95% Zinc and 5% Lead. nothing to do now but keep looking.
I was at my in-laws last night in the country. I took some time to take the Ace250 out to a groove of trees that had a clearing in. The groove is right next to a small house that was for the hired men in its day. I found alot of trash items, nails, misc. steel, an old three pronged fork etc... Occasionally I would get a good nickel or dime signal and I would dig up these clumps of metal. I was baffled as to what they were.
A while later I got a signal and dug up the object that looks like a small bat, it is 1 1/2" long and 5/8" wide at its widest point. It occurred to me that someone had probably been doing their own casting at this spot. the "bat" appears to be aluminum.
What is odd here is that some of the clumps of metal were very light in comparison to other clumps relatively the same size. I broke some chunks off of the samples and some appear very dull in nature and they are the lighter samples. I am guessing that these are aluminum also. These are in the right hand pile.
The heavier ones are very shiny when samples are broken off of them. To give you a rough idea of the weight difference in the material, look at the "bat" and keep in mind its size 1 1/2"X5/8", it weighs 7 ounces. Now look at the small round sample at the top of the left hand pile in the picture. This sample is 3/4"X3/4"X3/16" at its thickest and it weighs 9 ounces. Less metal but more weight. None of the materials are magnetic BTW, and no rust.
Could I have silver here or lead, but it's not soft like lead. Anyone have any ideas. I have given as much detail as I can think of. If you want to know anything else that might help, let me know and I will try to do it. Thanks in advance.
