I dug this earlier from about 10" behind a cellar hole dating from the 1690s, the entire site is heavily contaminated with early 1900-1920s railroad debris, bottles, spikes, cans etc. This was the only interesting item I found other than some early 1900s local beer bottles and a few medicine bottles. I can't find any info about the item on the Internet. It appears to be tin,

some type of lid or cover.
