✅ SOLVED Mystery Item - Need help identifying

This relic made of brass - I believe - is 2 inches in diameter and has a piece riveted to it on the top. That part is partially broken but looks like it had a hole as if it were intended to be hung from something. It looks crudely and rustically hand made. It has no visible markings on either side. In the area I found this metal detecting there used to be a French Missionary Village and Chapel in the 1650’s. Could this be a 17th Century relic?

Looks to me like someone tried to fabricate a pan for a leghold trap. Or possibly a rain flapper from a tractor exhaust stack
