I’ve had this for awhile now and I’ve not found anything else like it ever .Im thinking a socket for a drill or fire drill but I’m clueless any help will be appreciated FA0D3375-5FA8-4F6B-924B-F9D2C6923FBF.jpeg
 

Can you ptu a coin by it for size reference and where did you find it/ a little more info will help

When starting a fire with a bow drill you need a rock with a dimple to stabilize the drill at the top. The rock acts like a bearing. In Boy Scouts we called that rock a "thunderbird". Not sure that's what it is but it could be. It might just be an unfinished clay bead. Gary

I like Gary's idea...I had forgotten about that, but at my age, that's not surprising. :laughing7:

I’ve found several like these in bluff shelters. They are bow drill stones for starting a fire. It has several marks where it looks like it’s slid off while drilling to get a hot ember. Good find. Little things like these are cool to find. I found mine in an area where there were fires, and also found a few in an area where broken pottery was found. Some of them have been found in two pieces, where they drilled too deep, and cracked them.
