Mystery iron loop-d-loop?

Anyone have any ideas? its big, its old, its odd. I found it in the woods near an old ice pond. I was thinking something to do with horse or ox rigging of some sort but I'm not really sure? anyone even find one of these before? Also don't mind the cat, she was a good dumpster score awhile ago and I already identified it as Lyla.
