Mystery iron item

I found this item in front of a100 year old Japanese colonial era building in Seoul. It is about 4 inches long. The half dollar is for size reference. It could be some kind of handle or tool/weapon scabbard. I think it is quite old. It is not broken. I soaked it in vinegar for a week. I believe it is Japanese from the 1868-1945 period. Please let me know what you think.

It's fairly large for a personal item. Doesn't appear to be broken.

Maybe a shaft tip from a carriage or jinrikisha?
