Back in 1997 a buddy and I went MD-ing/ghost towning in some of the smaller towns about three hours northwest of Las Vegas. Not having a lot of luck plus getting shooed off some land we didn't realize was private, we decided to do some fossil hunting in a very desolate area adjacent to a large quarry. At the top of a ridge we discovered what looked like a small cairn. With visions of buried treasure in our heads we dismantled the pile of rocks and found a very rusted Prince Albert tobacco tin. We opened it and found a brittle, yellowing piece of paper folded in two. We thought "Oh boy, a map! Time for a treasure hunt!!" There are four lines of cursive writing on it and most of it is still legible. Here's what it says:
Line 1 - "(missing word) Westerly Corner"
Line 2 - "Sunny Brook, N.V."
Line 3 - "Feb. 25 1955"
Line 4 - "Smith & Roman"
The missing word in line 1 is probably "north" or "south" (a bit of the paper is missing but you can tell a word was there) and the word Roman could be something else since the handwriting isn't the greatest. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? The area where we found this has probably been completely dug up by now so if this was referring to a local burial site it's long gone now. Thanks for any help!
