Mystery Egg with Carvings

This mystery egg is hollow inside and it rattles if you shake it. Any ideas?

We do not know. It was purchased 20 years ago as part of a large rock collection.

Crack it open and see what is inside. I bet there is gold in that egg!

Second guess: Souvenir rattle, mass manufactured, any marks of identification?

Looks like Anasazi writing, they did a lot of trading with Inca's and Mayan's. Egg could have been brought
from either of those areas, with markings made later. Many bird symbols, (and their eggs) were sacred.

Okay, just drill a hole in the top and look inside. If somebody went to all that hassle to seal stuff up in a stone egg then there has to be something good inside.

Second option. Fake like you hurt your leg, stick it in your pocket, and then go get an x-ray. Ask to review the x-ray with the physician. Gold will show up on x-ray.

You gotta find out what is in that thing!

I don't know much about petrified eggs. If it was a petrified egg why wouldn't the inside be solid as it would petrify at the same time? Also, for the outside to be solid as stone it would have to be more then just the shell petrifying. I'm not even sure if the shell of an egg can petrify. It is mostly calcium. I will have to do some research on this.

It appears the outside of an egg can petrify. I found this site...their eggs don't look much like that one...

I'm just guessing.

The egg was likely emptied.
A hole poked in each end and contents blown out.
Some pebbles added to make it rattle for a kid or some ceremonial purpose.

Seriously, that is genius! Take it through a metal detector at the court house. If it goes off...BOOM BABY!
