Hey guys,

This eagle flat button turned up on the coast of SC. It is copper and has a slightly domed front. There may also be remains of an anchor that extends from the center of the button down to the edge. Anyone recognized this one??

I don't think we are ignoring your find, it's just that the detail is so weak it's hard to say for sure what you have. I went thru Albert's button book and I found about 3 that could possible be yours, but it would just be a guess. I can definitely see the bent wing on the left side as we view it, but that just not enough to make an ID. I know one thing, I would search the area hard and find his brother.

Thanks for giving it a shot duggap- my gut is telling me that it is an early navy eagle as the remnants of an anchor are visible across the bottom. Its a miracle a copper button survived as long as it did in salt water.

Well, IF anyone else thought there was a chance that the bird was a pelican, and the button made of brass, then perhaps a Louisiana militia button, and not too common. But take it with a grain of salt -- as I'm tired...
Tice's book lists a brass 1-piece (LA245) Louisiana Pelican button, not listed in Albert's at the time my book was printed.
