Field got tilled saturday and has been raining since sunday. Got out early this morning and found something interesting. Has a big drilled spot and face side at 2 oclock there are some markings. Thought maybe bannerstone with size of hole, but hole and polished side doesnt look like any shape of bannerstone ive seen online so far.

This looks like a flint adze or tool of that sort.

Nice finds ..... Is it definitely drilled or could it possibly be a chunk missing from when they were making it or plow damage ? I have a few similar to that one with the curved stem I always wondered why they made it that way instead of just a straight stem/base

I would have to say deff drilled. Havent found anything drilled before, but this piece has me intrigued. Good sized hole too.

I don't see where that first stone has been drilled anywhere. Are you talking about the curved part in the 3rd and 4th pictures or the big divot in the first two pictures?

No, not the divot... The smooth glossy rounded spot going down the legth of the piece, with lines all the way down going horizontal giving me the idea that is was drilled. Certainly not tractor damage. If you have any idea as to what it is or how that was formed that would be helpful.

Okay, I see it now with those better pictures. That definitely looks to have been drilled and may be a really busted up Bannerstone. Cool find.

Sorry about pics, I usually try to take pics in natural light. Yea unfortunetely busted all over, will have to keep my eye open for material that color. only reason I thought it wasn't a bannerstone was its drilled spot and the position of the polished angled part which doesnt seem to match others ive seen. Who knows how many times it was busted though, pretty pumped about it.

Hey captain my mistake ... Know I see it sorry .... The divot grabbed my attention in the first pics. Like you said deff drilled nice find

Looks like part of a humpback bannerstone to me which would explain the odd angle you mentioned. Always fun to find 'em even if only a chunk.

All in 1 day? Pretty impressive

This was all I got for insitu

Some of the saddlebacks might fit the bill, too. A bit confusing to me, because in Lutz's book, some of the humped types look like saddlebacks and vice versa.

Looking at some examples of those, it makes a little more sense. I deff need to get ahold of some good books on artifacts from my area. Ive got Ritchies nomenclature, but thats point specific.
