Good evening, experts!

I found a bullet today in the same area where I was finding regular 3-ringers. It's a bit different (the one on the left with the rounded top) and I hoped someone would tell me what it is.

Also found this brass pipe/tubing fitted into a rubber stopper. Looks familiar but I can't think of what it is. By the way, that's a Lincoln cent in the picture for scale.

Okay, do your magic! Thanks!

Your mystery CW bullet is definitely a "hard-rammed" and fired US .58 Williams Regulation minie. Firing squeezed its flat-bottomed grooves a bit narrower than you see on an unfired one. Distinct ramrod mark is visible on the undamaged part of your minie's nose.

Forgot to mention, there are two versions of the Williams Regulation minie. Yours is the longer version. The base is shorter on the other version.

Also, your hard-rammed minie's nose was compressed to a rounded shape by the inside of an Enfield ramrod's nouth. The inside of a civil war era Springfield ramrod's mouth is conical. So, your minie was fired from an Enfield rifle. Contrary to widespread belief among diggers, the yankee armies had lots of Enfield rifles -- not just the Confederates.

Okay, that makes sense, because I don't think there ever were any Confederates in Bethesda, MD, to be firing them.
