I knew the coin looked familiar. My Dad gave me a WW2 Hand Grenade canister full of money and Bier tokens :thumbsup: he brought back from WW2.
One of those coins is the same as your found one and also can help explain how coins as such can be found in North America. I believe the funky date indicates 1937 but not sure, but anyway, here is a good clear photograph of both sides of the one in my possession.
My Dad was in the 5th Army, which landed in Tunisa and went thru North Africa to Sicily up Italy to France and was just about I think to enter Germany when the war ended, so precious souvenirs these are of that time.
