Found in a primarily 1700 field no good back mark that I can read but absolutely beautiful didn't even see any of this till after I cleaned it but I have no idea what this button belonged to I see a castle on top then an A in the center and a D to the lower right first letter it scraped off I think it was an E IMG_1087.JPG IMG_1085.JPG

First, welcome to the forums. Second, I have no idea. Maybe something to do with engineers because of the castle. I found one AED acronym that meant Architectural Engineers Directorate but I don't have any clue if it is related to your button. Hope someone here will ID this one.

This is a good mid-19th C Military dress button. The 'A' is the British Militia Town/area name & the LD is for Light Dragoons. I will look into it for you, although this may narrow it for other researchers.

I stopped short of calling it an L because it looks like there is engraving going up the right side. L makes the most sense, but I can't see how it's an L.

I have no issue with that, its the typical wedged shaped kick up.

My best guess because of the Castle is;
6th Dragoon Guards, but it far from a perfect match, so a pretty bad guess.

Looking again there is a space between where the silver plate seems to be rubbed away... and the rubbed portion also seems on a slight angle... so I agree, back to what makes sense, it's an L. Just a matter of figuring out the place name... which might not be too easy. The militia website would be the place to go.
