Mystery button found at early 1850's fort site...any ideas what it is?

This button was found at an early US fort site that dates to the 1850's. Any idea what this button says, symbols on the button or how old it could be? We think it may be related to the Hudson Bay Company which had an establishment not too far away from this site. Thanks for the help!

From the looks of it I want to say modern, sort of looks like a hem weight. But I thought this button that I found was worthy enough to go in with my best. It came from a site dating back to the mid 1800's. I think my button is from the 40's or 50's and I'm only posting it because it reminds me of yours. Lets see what the experts have to say:

Well please tell us what the writing says. I see a battle ax (circled blue) and maybe an anchor circled green). I want to say the word on top is London but I'm making that up:

It's not modern. In my four-hole button binders where I keep the best examples of everything, I found this exact button.

It says "TRADE MARK" with a star-like symbol on the left and a battle axe on the right.

Probably have dug up a few dozen of this particular button, mostly at late 19th century sites.
