I went off to an old school site in a nearby town yesterday morning in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. Found a few interesting items. No coins at all. Heavy woods and difficult to get around with all the cat briers, wisteria and blackberry brambles.
I am guilty of cutting the spoon handle in half when digging it out.
So I got the spoon, a piece of flattened brass with FRONT on it. A brass finger piece for a candle dish. A compass pendant that was sliver plated. And the mystery button.
I have not been able to make any sense out of the "SPU CO.". The thing in the middle looks like a wagon wheel or early wood spoke vehicle wheel. That leads me to think transportation of some kind. Transportation that would wear a uniform. Teamster, trolly car conductor, cab driver, bus driver. But I don't know.
The back has "EXTRA QUALITY" separated by two stars. It was originally gold plated. The face of the button is flat and was made that way.
Can anyone ID it? Even dating it from the back mark would be helpful.
