Hi all,

I thought that since I have found quite a few what I call "unknown" buttons that maybe I could post a few each week for you all to have a peek at. These are buttons that I have found right near my home. Some at farms, others in the woods where old houses stood in the 1700-1800's. Some in cellar holes and some where I just thought people may have once been. I have general ideas of what I think they are but that's it. Here is one that I found on the road I live on. I found no cellar hole there but I think it may have been filled in as I saw what appeared to be a bulldozed trail where they hauled wood from. Is this a "decorative victorian button?"

Let me know if you would like to try some other "mystery" buttons.

I'd say that's a pretty fair description, Enhh— late 19th century dress button.

Looks alot like some of the buttons we find over here also. The dates can vary a fair amount from what I've seen, but then again, I'm no PBK. :)

Well, that's definitely one point in your favor! :D

And I would agree that on some buttons designs there can be relatively little style drift over quite a long period of time.

Nice Button Enhh and of course we would like to see more.
Is there anything on the backs of the buttons?. I see that several dress styles in the late 1800's featured button designs like this one. Its a nice find.
On your avatar....did you paint that bottle? Its very pretty.!

Hi Gypsy Heart, I will post some more buttons. They are nothing fantastic but I enjoy finding every one of them. Some are pretty rough on the backs and some are missing shanks and backmarks. Yes, my avatar is a bottle that I painted. It's another hobby of mine. I dig, clean and paint the ones that I don't want to save as is. It's a great way to preserve history and folks seem to like them alot. Thanks for the compliment.
