So I found this mystery brass item at a civil war site and the thing that made me curious to what it is, is it appears to have a large caliber bullet hole to it. So I lugged it several miles with the hope that one of y'all might know what it is?

Reminds me of a harmonica reed. Maybe somebody got sick of hearing an accordion and blasted it. [emoji1]

No I don't think so, it's not the right size and it's retangular not square

Does look kind of like a squeeze box, but I think Bruce R, has the ID on it.

It really looks like I reed of some kind Squeezebox or accordion or who knows if it was a splice the doohickeys would be sharp on the end I would think

Bruce may have it (again!), but would be nice to know the thickness or weight - just how stiff is this? Those old farm belts did what heavy steel PTO shafts do now. They were often 30' long loops, which means 60' long lengths of heavy canvas. Have seen very old industrial belts much longer than that. ...Would this piece hold the ends of canvas together? Would the piece flex going around steel wheels at fairly high speed?

Thickness maybe 1mm, stiffness it could be bent in half but I doubt it would be flexing around a wheel.

The bigger the wheel, the less flex it needs. The piece looks like it was longer. And hey, there's always a chance I'm wrong, right ?
