Found this "what is it" in an old park dating back to just before WWI but I don't think it's that old. It's nonferrous on the filigree part but a magnet will stick to both sides in the rusted middle. It looks the same on both sides and is made in two parts with a rivet and small hole in the middle. The filigree part is probably made of brass or copper and was once gold plated. It has a lot of small fine detail. You can tell the size by comparing it with my fingers in the pic. I took the pic that way so you could see it was hollow in the middle. I thought it might be a locket before I cleaned it up and discovered it wasn't. Then my thoughts turned to button but it's really too big and heavy for a button. Maybe part of a broach or something similar attached through the hole in the middle? Beats me! Any ideas?

Nice looking find.... Could it not be a perfume locket like in my picture.... You put perfume inside of it and it smells nice wherever you walk.....

God bless
Peter

It's just one of those ambiguous things that could be any of the ideas mentioned or none of them. I really think it's too big and heavy for a button. Perfume would run right through it. The tie thing? I don't know but if so part of it is missing. no way to secure it. I think it's probably a part of something else, just can't imagine what. I hoped I'd find a chain or the rest of it but no such luck. Thanks for the responses. M ??? nty

Jim,
I'm just pulling this out of thin air.........but, to me it looks like it was a pendant with a stone in the middle. Think of all the black onyx rings you've seen with a diamond in the middle. I dunno, just a thought!

Whatever was in the middle is gone now and just the ferrous base remains as it is really heavily rusted. My wife thinks it may have had a cameo on each side attached to the brad through the middle. That kinda' makes sense. M ??? nty
