Mysterious Ring

Hello everybody, I have a quick question that you might be able to help me with. Before I acquired my MXT and became a treasure hunter, I found this ring inside my house. While my home was built in 1940 the entire pad had new carpet in the rooms. In my bedroom, I found this mans “wedding ring?” which I first thought was the “One True Ring of Power” from Lord of the Rings (without the inscription, however, I have yet to throw it in the fire to test it). My girl said she didn’t know anything about it and I believe her. It was wedged under a phone jack and on top the carpet along the wall. I found it when I woke up one morning and happened to catch a glance at it from my bed. It polished up real nice, but I cannot determine what the ring is composed of. The only stamped writing on the inside says “J 25.” The J is much smaller then the 25. Any ideas what this hallmark means or what composition it could represent . At first I thought it was silver, but on closer inspection, there seems to have a golden glint to it. Sorry, no pictures yet. Thanks in advance for any advice. J

When were the carpets installed? Could belong to one of the installers. Otherwise how could this not have been noticed when your phone was plugged in?

Thanks for the quick replies. The phone jack was never used, while I lived here. So, I figure, the ring was probably was lost by one of the carpet installers, before I moved in, and afgter the last person move/kicked out.. Never the less, any ideas regarding what the J 25 mean? Yes, that is j 25. Thanks again, J
