I pulled this heavy hunk of metal (probably iron or lead) from a stream near a civil war campsite near my house.

Any thoughts on what it is?

Couple details:

The shape comes fairly close to a square with four sides.

It is a corner part of something, given the L-shaped bracket piece. The bottom has some black strip still on it.

The bottom sits fairly flat on top of three elevated circular pieces that seem to serve as feet.

There are a couple of bean-looking objects are stuck in the side. One fell out, unfortunately.

Any thoughts would be appreciated... thanks

I think a good cooking in the hot tub would work wonders as far as an ID goes.

I agree. You need to cook about 100 years of rust off that to get a good ID.

That said, If I had to guess I'd say its a foot off a parlor stove or bathtub.

If a magnet sticks to it it is Iron if it don't I think it could be lead. If you can cut into it with a knife it is probably lead. With all that rust i am guessing Iron

I also think it is some sort of cast iron foot (lead doesn't rust). Give it a few taps with a slag hammer to see what falls off!

Magnet does stick, so iron it is. I'm going to x-ray and/or cook it good
