The wife and I have been discussing possible vacation destinations for this summer, and Myrtle Beach came up. It’s been about 30 years since I’ve been to Myrtle Beach, the wife has never been. I’ll be taking my Minelab Sovereign Elite and new X-Terra Elite, as I plan to get a lot of beach detecting in while we’re there. The wife doesn’t detect but is content to sit under the umbrella and hold down the fort while I’m out swinging my coil, lol.

Looking for recommendations on nice beach front places to stay, preferably on beaches that have a history of or possibility of making some nice finds, if that’s still possible these days, lol.

As we’ve gotten older, we’ve become more interested in convenience, so the key for us is that I want an ocean front room, right on the beach, so that I can just take the elevator down, walk out on the beach and start detecting. We’d also like the room to have a balcony, so we can sit out in the morning and evening and look over the beach and the ocean.

Anyone here who has detected Myrtle Beach and stayed at a nice beach front that they could recommend?

There’s so many listings, prices are all over the place, so I’d appreciate any referrals/suggestions that would help us narrow down the possible places we consider. Thanks!

Hi, just so you know, obviously anything can turn up on a beach at any time, so what I'm going to say you can take with a grain of salt of course...
I live in Charlotte, and because Myrtle Beach is 4 hours from here and the BIGGEST and CLOSEST beach to me, I have been there Many times...
20 years ago I used to find stuff there on a regular basis but I have not found much more than an occasional coin on the beaches I've hunted around Myrtle beach in the last 15 years...

I wish you the best of luck and wish I could be with you but considering my personal experience I would not expect much...
(less that a $1 in change in a days walking)

As for places to stay there are TONS of excellent resorts right on the beach, some with swimming pools on the roof and Jacuzzis and one has a bowling alley ... I always try to get one with Breakfast included so you don't have to go somewhere else for that..
But if your there for fun and sun its a great place, for detecting... not so much...

Maybe because there are a plethora of locals that hunt those beach too... I don't know..

The Holiday Inn Express in Surfside has alway been a nice place when we stayed there...

Thanks! I remember a post on some of the forums, probably about 10 years ago, a small group of detectorists took their wives and did a group detecting trip to Myrtle Beach. They all found rings, gold, etc., posted a lot of pics of their finds. I found a lot more rings & sparkly things 10 years ago on beaches but have noticed they've become much rarer to find over the last few years. But the great thing about the beach and ocean is that it's a giant piggy bank, and detecting & finds can change daily, sometimes over a tide change, so every day's a new day. At least we're out in the sun, water, getting exercise, and at the end of the day, a bad day's detecting still beats a good day at the office, lol.
