Hello all while in the chat room last knight i was reminded of a cache that was found by a freind of the family... So without further ado.
For some reason I thought this took place in an old bank but it doesn't
The year was 1982 give or take a year
A friend of the family was at work one day renovating a house in the city of Toronto Ontario. While tearing out a wall to make a room bigger he found 2 small brown paper bags, Once picked up he noticed their was something heavy inside each of them. upon opening the bag's he was greeted by quite a few half roll's of quarters(Some of the roll's only had 4 or 5 quarters in them).
Now at this time in his life he was short for money but knew he had found something worth while. So he thought that perhaps My parents would be interested in buy them off of him. some offers went back and forth but the final amount was in the neighborhood of $150.
And they have been in the possesion of the family ever since.
Unfortunatly the old paper wrappers have long since been thrown away as were the 2 paper bags.
Another unfortunate thing is that because of the time that has elapsed since this find the friend and my family have lost touch inevitable because of this there are more questions then answers.
Luckily I was able to stop in and take pictures of the quarters today.
These quarters have ALL got very noticable wear to them except for the 5 quarters from 1968 Which incidenly are all 50% silver
(For the year of 1968 71 million were made .500 silver while 88 million were made pure nickel .999)
Now their is a few more probably 30 or 40 that are in a coin book that are not pictured
The only date that doesn't appear is 1947 from 1940-1965
1968 seems like an interesting date to me because their wasn't any quarters from 1966 or 67
maybe they were put in the wall in that year because those 68's are still fairly shiney with very minimal wear to them.
The final tally is 177 silver quarters with the others in the book more then likely 200ish
here are the pictures
