My sort of gps hunt
Got back in the woods today with the Garmin to take me to the next waypoint. In about a hundred or so feet, I came upon a large pile of stones, but the area didn't appear to be a home site. Checking around, there were numerous areas with iron in the ground. I turned up loads of shotgun shell casings, horseshoes, and a sewing thimble. Decided to find the waypoint of the day and really did't find much there; I think the 1896 map is off. From there I went up to the high point of the peninsula and found more there in the way of shotgun shells, a small cache of metal files, and what really looks like a cellar hole. In the middle of the depression, under several flat field stones, I got a choppy signal, but high; it turned out to be a cuff button with complete shank. All I can make out on the back is 'Treble Gilt'; this looks like a 19th century button. Looking forward to more exploration in this area. Stay tuned and happy hunting.
