Hi. My 4 year old son was digging in the rubble of stone and rotting boards in our attic and found an oldish looking key.? Our house was built? in 1759.? Johannes and Barbara Immel lived here.? It has quite a history. Anyway.? Does anyone think this key is real.? Could it? be from that time period?? The door locks on our bedrooms all have the? old German locks.? I think some are Moravian.? The key did not fit them.? It was too big.? Any ideas?? My son is now hooked and is sure theres buried treasure.? I must say I was excited as well when he(of all people) found it.? He's currently saving any money he gets for a metal detector.? Thanks for the help.? I also can't put the picture of the key up.? I t says its too large and I don't know how to resize it.? Can anyone help? ??? ???

Well, despite my google searches I couldn't figure out the size of that Lego block I'm supposed to compare it to! :D

If the key was hidden it very well could be a key to a cache or secret door.

It looks like a key to an old jailhouse, :-\ tell your son good luck in his quest for treasure.Sounds like he has a nice old colonial yard to start practicing in.Lucky him! :) H.H.-diggumuup

By the size of it, I would say it is a GATE Key. They are still in use in Europe, most courtyards had gates and the keys were these type. Also the old church yards had similar keys to the front doors allthough they were seldom locked. Just my guess.
