I braved the rough surf and high winds this morning, Man they were blowing! I rode my bike to the beach and I had to go NE to get there, the wind had me at a stand still a few times!
Low tide was not..... It was very high. I went for a while finding the usual coins of which I am always happy for!
The high winds have blown in tons of sargasso weed. It's neat stuff always full of all kinds of little critters. I think I might be the only one who likes to pick it up and look through it. It's full of crazy looking fish, shrimp and sea horses. This weed is also where the new hatchling sea turtles like to stay and they were washing up on the beach and getting stuck. I saw a couple find one, I went for a look as they were giving it to the beach patrol. I kept walking and went past my exit so on the way back I thought I might try up real high close to the dunes where the sargasso weed had been deposited from the night before, maybe I would find a turtle. I found one spot in the sand that was loaded with stuff! This area was about 6 feet by 3 feet and I couldn't move the detector an inch without it going nuts. It was full of lead fishing weights. I was finding them by the handful, how weird. I thought maybe if all these weights have collected here then there might be something valuable. After about the 20th weight, I pull out this big ring, nice and shiny silver, to wide for my liking. At first glance I think oh cool a nice silver ring and I can't find any marking on the inside and then a light from the heavens shines down and illuminates the letters PLAT.
I said nah! no Way this thing is platinum, it's ugly!
Anyways it's platinum, it is 3 mm thick, 9 mm wide and weighs just under half an ounce!
I think I might have just paid for my Sandshark. Oh and by the way I have been hunting in the surf now with a small handheld scoop, I think now I might have to get the nutall scoop! Enjoy the pics!
All of the change and fishing weights!
