Metal Detecting
Got out last Saturday for about 2 and half hours.
I have been having luck at ball fields this year, so just decided to keep it up.
I found a very small one that must have been a little league field at one time, and looked seldom used now.
The bases were not even visible really, but could be discerned if you looked hard enough.
I think it is mostly used for practice now, or small gatherings.
In any case, I knew it had been used in the "silver years", so I gave it a go.
I scoped the area out, and headed in.
Not even 5 minutes hunting and the first plug I cut I nabbed the '39 merc at about 5 inches.
I was like...ok...did I find a virgin sight here? What luck was this?
Started talking to myself. :happy3:
I rescanned the hole, and bango...another signal which I thought was a quarter.
My pinpointer showed deeper, so I dug down to 8" and then rescanned.
It was right where the merc was-- '53 rosie.
Two in the same hole! Yeah! :occasion18:
I swung to my left and and to the side about 10 yards and got a great mid-tone. Loud and strong, so I dug, and out comes the token.
By this time I was really into it. I was not arrogant enough to think the sight had never been hunted, but I could not imagine my luck.
After that, nothing but clad for an hour, then I got the key.
Swinging down the towards the ball cage I got a good signal in the penny range, and I pulled the junk ring from about an inch under.
Still pretty interesting.
Crossing over the field and to the far right, I got a sweet quarter signal about 6" down. So, I am thinking silver quarter, and out pops the sterling
Espo ring. I was pretty pleased by then, but thought I would definitely get some more silvers.
Anyway, going through the clad later I found the one piece was a '68 Panama Quarter De Balboa (Panama Quarter--not silver).
So all in all, a good night out and good time.

~HH all!
