Hey guys, its raining here so i thought Id put together a little pic of my favorite finds from the cornfield my son and I stumbled upon in march. Definately by far my best site EVER! and will definately hitting this thing hard again come fall harvest!! assortment.jpg
The coins are as follows: worn date draped bust Large cent, (3) unidentifiable date LCs, (2) unidentifiable coppers (perhaps LCs), (2) 1812 Large cents, 1818 Large Cent, 1820 Large cent, 1864 2 center, 18?? shield nickel, and (2) 1860 Indian heads, (gave one to my brother). Also got over 50 various size and style buttons, some treble gilt, some double, and some with some pretty cool designs. A thimble, and a pair of cufflinks still intact, (2) suspender buckles, a whistle marked "mossberg wrench company" on one side and "worlds fair souvenir" on the other. Plus a ton of pottery fragments and various other relics. I absolutely love cornfield hunts like this site, i NEED to find more this summer for fall diggin'! Thanks for looking and HH!!

dam!! you hit the motherload!!! nice!!!

That is a real nice collection:occasion14: and a very HOT SPOT :notworthy:keep on hunting:icon_thumleft:

Thanks alot!, my son had the idea to try that field after watching about a bazillion youtube vids on metal detecting cornfields, getting permission was simple and we just so happen to stumble upon an old homesite, i had no idea what i was looking for until i read about debris fields and finding nails/iron junk. This field is about a half mile long and we luckily found the homesite right off the bat. Even the farmer had no idea it was an old homesite until we showed him the goods. It was plowed and seeded the same day so i was only able to hit it for 3 hrs on my last day there before he seeded it, needless to say Ill be abusing the hell out of that ground come fall!!

It looks like you have discovered the thrill of field hunting. The fields are all planted here or are full of tall grass and weeds, and it is going to be a long summer 'till fall. I hear the lakes calling me now.:laughing7:

Nice finds!

I remember your first hunt there, and saying you probably were on the "hot spot" (as you mentioned the size of the field) I also said to dig the lower numbers and you'd get buttons, seeing you got 50 from that site I guess I was right.

No doubt you will get another keeper or two, as "no site is hunted out" but it does look like you "cleaned" it pretty good. It is quite rare for an old site to give up more than a dozen coppers. That said I'd certainly go back especially after a plow.

I love new, target rich sites, now go find another.

OK, let's see....you're in NePa.....I am in NePa.......don't you need someone to help carry the loot and tools?:tongue3: Nice finds....I would make another trip to that field this fall after harvest AND next spring after it's plowed again.

Great bunch of colonial and 1800's finds! Love to see it...and love to dig it even more! lol HH

Yes Rick I do remember your advice and I forgot to say thanks 4 that, alot of the buttons were real low signals, like 2-3 notches above iron! I gotta get up on my research, im sure theres a ton more fields out there that had former homesites on them!

Im already gridding that place out in my mind!!

My favorites are the suspended buckles, nice work!

That is very very rare to get a field site like that, you found more in that one site than I did in 20 field sites I hunted this spring, most gave up one coin on average and they were indians not large coppers....lol
