I've often wished for a 3D printer combined with a 3D scanner so when I have a broken thing, I could just poke a couple of buttons and get it to make me another one.

I am trying to learn FreeCAD right now. I plan to buy my first 3D printer soon. I have done other 3D design before(game level design and SketchUp most notably). I feel overwhelmed with getting started, but I really need to have a printer for my inventions. I am constantly producing ideas using the most ridiculous manufacturing techniques, and would really like to stop wasting time and improve my products.

Can you recommend a good starting printer? I have cats so something with a booth would be good, but I can always build a booth. It looks like you've been having a lot of fun with your printer though!

How much are you looking to spend?
