I was out detecting a spot that has been hit by hundreds, if not thousands for decades. I was tired of finding clad and really was itching for something old.
After digging nothing but clad and a couple of wheaties I got a 26/27 on my nox 800. I figured it was another dime, it was only reading a few inches deep. After pulling it out I was shocked thinking I got a barber dime. Then after I spit on it I knew it was old but didn't know what it was! I was finally able to read a 45 on the back. After sending pics to friends they informed me it was a 1845 1 Franc! Sweet!!! 20190620_185306.jpg20190620_185338.jpg20190619_172610.jpg

Sweet french coin!!!! And an old one to boot! :occasion14:

Congrats on a nice silver surprise. That’s the great thing about this hobby. You dig piles of trash and clad and then BAM, out pops something really special that you didn’t even know existed. Then you do a little checking and find out what it is.

The never knowing what the next dig will bring does keep me going and makes me cover every inch, because if you miss by an inch you still missed.

Keep swingin.

Awesome! Congrats!

Never seen one, but would love to find one - congrats on the '45 franc and all your finds from the site! :skullflag: :occasion14:

Outstanding !! Just goes to show you, you never know what is going to pop out of the ground!!!

Nice find. Looks like the size of the 1865 50 centimes made into a love token I found years ago. Whats the weight/diameter?
