Terry, perfect timing on that image. I'm learning the value of keeping my mouth shut! Too many locals are on TN.

DH - tell 'em about your third & fourth favorite spot so you have friends and allies when you want 'em but keep the top two to yourself! That's my approach anyway :-)

What ever it was, congratulations!

Had me a killer Randsburger at the burger stand in the mid 80s. Love, and miss that desert. Saw awesome mining history as well as new claims guarded by AK-47.

Aufisher, my favorite thing in the desert used to be looking out across the desert floor to the surrounding mountains at sunrise, many of the mountains are being filled with those huge and ugly wind generators, so now my favorite thing is looking out across the desert floor and a few less mountains. I understand the desire for green energy, I do! But when this green pollutes my vision and mind I no longer call it green energy, I call it green pollution!

DH . I know what you're talking about. I used to run cattle at the end of Jawbone and Lone Tree Cyns. Now the whole damn thing is covered with windmills. Just terrific.

rodoconnor, What gets me is that guarded gate at the end of Jawbone Canyon, if this was a miners claim we would have to allow public access because it's public land, it appears that it's no longer public land when the greenies move in.

The gate has been there for at least 40 yrs. Onyx Land and Cattle. One of the largest private prty owns on the planet. There is gold at the end of Jawbone. All that land up there is checkerboarded private/BLM. The gates are all on private property cutting off access. There are ways in there through the public lands, not easy at all !! G/L

rodoconnor, learn something new every day, thanks for the info. I have the maps of the area, I'll look up the way in, I'd love to get a peek at the area.

DH I cowboyed that country quite a bit and guess I know it as well as anyone. On Cross Mt there is an old antimony mine and a few others. There are remains of mining equipment up there as well. Up in Little Jawbone Cyn there are remnants of a small ghost town. The most interesting factoid is there is a herd of elk up there , Last time I was there we counted 35 cows each with a calf at her side!! Dead smack in the middle of the Mojave Desert. There are springs up there if you know where to look. I wouldn't try to get up there unless I had a horse or dirt bike. Or unless you're a double tough SOB !! Maps , google earth and satelite photos G/L Rod

rodoconnor, the desert is an amazing place when you take time to explore it. When I was a little whippersnapper growing up outside of Palmdale I came across a large herd of Antelope; they weren't as happy to see me as I was to see them! They had young-ens and chased me out of their grazing area. I wouldn't call myself double tough, as I begin to age I'm learning that I was more or less 1/2 crazy and 1/2 stupid, now I try to use my brain and stay out of situations that take me where few tread. I got away with it when I was young and lucky, now I listen to those who know better; guess I'll have to get me an ATV before attempting this one. Thank you for sharing Rod.
