My Loitwood Notched Points. Thanks Quito!

Growing up in Indiana I was blessed with many things relic wise, but finding small true arrowheads was not one of those things (I have found 2 little Madison like points at my sites.) I’ve always loved them, the simplicity, the purity of design. Just efficient little tools made from high quality materials.

Like many of us, I was always blown away by the little notched points Steve/Larson used to post here, especially the Jaw Notch points he would post. So when the Loitwood collection from the Dakotas came up for auction, one of the things that I wanted to do was add to my birdpoint frame. It’ll be a couple of years before I get to work these into that big frame, but I think these are the ones that will make the cut. Many thanks to Quito/Joel for picking these out of thousands of points and helping me add them to my collection.

Quito also picked out about an equal number of awesome triangles that I didn’t get a picture of before I put them into storage.

Edit- I do have a picture of the triangles.pd

Ohio & Indiana has some small notched points but none as nice as those. I put a frame together years ago of some of my best ones from Coshocton County. None have that flat almost stamped out look of those Loitwoods. Nice display.

Awesome! :icon_thumright:

I always enjoy the moment when I find one of those small side-notched points. They just seem like the manufacturer took the time to flake them so precisely.

Those are some beautiful points, cool acquisition!

Great group of arrow points.
I have always enjoyed finding Plains arrow points as they are generally very well made; many out of colorful lithics.
