As the title says this butcher block was on their closed in porch. I suspect it’s made of hickory and is extremely heavy. It needs to be refinished as the original finish has some water damage. It is marked 10 47 0 on the bottom, maybe a date? Any info is appreciated.

Need to start putting some TLC into that beauty.
Food grade mineral oil is cheaper at the pharmacy than the hardware store.
The most common alternatives to mineral oil include linseed oil, tung oil, and walnut oil. Similarly, these other oil finishes are also non-toxic and food-safe (in their raw form)
Pay close attention to this important fact.
The linseed oils have drying agents in them.
Most products made in the USA have additives.
I get linseed oil from a supplier that gets it from Sweden.
The big totes have a fork/spoon emblem to state it's food grade.

Sucha great piece to have- GL restoring it!

Thanks for all the responses, my plan is to restore the finish on top without damaging the aged patina of the wood. I just love all the old cut marks and dings in the top. I intend to keep it as original as possible.
