My Great Grandfather's Ring

Hello, I am hoping someone can provide me with some more information on the orgins of a ring that my grandfather had that had belonged to his father.

We had always referred to it as a Mason's ring, but there are no masonic markings on it.

My great grandfather was born in PA, but became a coal miner in Dawson, NM. He was born in about 1855.

I am attaching a few pictures of the ring to see if anyone could help with any more info.

There are no makers marks on it and it seems to be made of brass, or bronze, or copper.

There is some sort of flowe (lotus?) on the side of the ring and it appears to be a face wearing an eagle headdress set in a shield of sorts. The top has a worm image that could have been a lady, or a suit of armor, or anything really.

Was he ever a bouncer? That ring could do some damage!

I think the knight at the top with the chest armor on is a Masonic Symbol.

LOOKS TO BE A KNIGHT AT THE TOP AND MAYBE THE FIGURE BELOWS REPRESENTS THE SUN ??? ALL I KNOW , DANG THING WOULD TAKE UP A WHOLE LOT OF FACE.

That is a man below the knight, he has a eagle head mask on his head. From the viewers perspective he's facing to the right, the mask has an eye behind the beak, and the man's eye is behind his nose. The beak appears to be hooked like that seen on an Aztec culture head mask.

I think your Grandad was a SUPER HERO :tongue3: The ring is too big IMHO to be more than a knock-out ring..

Looks like the profile has the head dress of an Aztec Eagle Warrior ? Mexicolore Thats the kind of ring you'd want have on your hand during the zoot suit riots. Was great Granddad a Zoot Suiter ?? I don't think Loco's shuck'n & Jive'n. That thing I believe was designed as a compact brass knuckle. I believe it was made made in Mexico.

Definitely inspired by a coat of arms at least, it's worth doing more research on. With the wear to the face, I'm guessing any marks on the inside are likely long gone?

I have a very very similar ring, inside crudely inscribed with " Mexico "
mine is in mint condition with enameling

Yeah, there are no markings on the inside of the ring (at least any more)

I agree with others. Mexican made Aztec eagle warrior biker type ring. Made for busting heads.
