My four year T-net anniversary...and what set the hook (with pics)

Yesterday was my fourth anniversay of posting on T-net, and like a lot of others, CRH started innocently enough wondering over here from the daily finds forum.

First few bank stops to pick up whatever halves they had almost always yielded a few silvers...I was liking it and said..."I'll never get addicted...not me".

Well about the second week cold calling banks, I went into one that had $460 worth...I was inexperienced and only had $180 or so on me, so I asked the tellers if I could see them(two were arguing if what they had were dollar coins or 50 cent pieces), the younger one went back to the vault and brought up the 46 rolls they had in an old quarter box and handed me a roll....I poured it out in my hand and it was 20 mixed 40%'s. This was before I knew to always buy them all, but something told me..."buy them all!", so I asked them to hold on a minute, and sprinted out to the ATM (didn't have an account there, but it was the best $3 fee I ever paid). So I buy the goods and get on the road heading home...start pouring the rolls into my hand, and it's roll after roll of solid silver with the occassional roll of clad mixed in.

I called my wife to tell her (which registered as zero on the excitement meter for her), and drove home. I had probably opened about 15 rolls by the time I got home, and dumped the rest on the kitchen counter to open them up...final tally was 39 rolls of solid silver...639 40%'s, 81 64's, and 60 Bens.

At the time, the find's melt value was about $2800 ($4800 today's melt). The wife still didn't comprehend what I was excited about looking at a pile of odd, mostly tarnished coins on her kitchen counter...the face value of which was under $500.

So any way, I snapped a few candid shots before I knew how to use the macro function, and thought I'd share them with the group. Sorry for the crappy quality, but it was my first silver porn shoot

BTW...it's been a sordid tale ever since, and I've never felt the high I did that day again...although I keep hunting for it.

That was quite a dream score for sure - and certainly one to remember! :icon_thumright:

It's always somewhat funny to hear about the indifference of wives to their husbands crhing hobby - even after a big score like that.

Belated congrats on the score and congrats on the anniversary too.

Had he put it into a dollar to shoe ratio, I bet she would have orgasmed thrice!

To the OP. What got me started was buying my first $100 worth of string rolls and getting 16/40% halves. I was hooked.

I only wish I had thought about CRH four years ago (or even ten).

I bet if you told your wife you had just won $4000 in the lottery she would be a bit more excited ;D.

well once you cash out your coins -- and took out the $463 in "invested" house hold money and yeilded the extra say $2,000 or more of profeit money * and showed the wife the "profeit" made --did she then get "happy" if not feel for a pulse . cuz few things excite women like a couple thousand "extra" dollars to play with.

good part is you could half and half it keeping a $1000 bucks for you ( to fund future CRHing without touching "house hold" funds ) and give her $1000 to do what makes her happy --bet she will smile then -- if not you best recheck the pulse.

I think it would be impossible not to get hooked after a find like that. I laughed when I read your about your wife's enthusiasm because mines the same way. I think she will finally get it when the day comes when I finally cash in. But that wont happen for a while.

Nice story! Most of us have similar experiences. My fourth anniversary of CRH had just passed(Jan. 25). The first big score for me is: 4 bens, 26 90%ers, 21 40%ers out of 16 rolls. After a month on a roadtrip, I found 22 rolls of solid silver at one bank plus lots of silver from other banks. Man, I miss those days!

many women are less than "impressed" by mens CRHing finds --because they see it as tying up house hold funds --ie you "tied up" that house hold bill money -- ie THEY CAN NOT "SPEND IT" * - SO IT MAKES THEIR "JOB" OF RUNNING THE HOUSEHOLD FISCALLY HARDER. - now if one makes money rapidly by flipping it , thus giving back the "house hold" money invested plus some "extra" to her --the women will now be "happy" with your CRHing as they can see the "profiet" in it -- * of course if you are smart , you only give half of the extra over --the other half you keep to "self fund" your future CRHing so you do not have to "touch" the sacred house hold income money * that the wife uses to run things with.

if she is the greedy type --every dime you earn is to be given over to me * open a bank account in your name only with her as "POD" pay on death only --with no accesss to it otherwise -- and put your half of the CRH hobby money in it to do as you please -- if she divorces or leaves you you -- its a side fund of cash to tide you over the rough times -- and if you die and she is still with you , she gets a lil "bonus" cash

WOW. Now that is certainly a nice hook. My first real hook was 4 silver dimes in one box. My best score came in about a month ago but it was not quite as good as your amazing score.

I remember this find. Those were the days. Yeah there is nothing like that first silver high.

Ivan,

Most of what I find goes into the safety deposit box as part of my inflation hedging strategy, and when I do sell silver I generally deal with APMEX, but I have brought my wife with me to sell some rolls at the local coin shop...nothing like seeing Franklins and Grants come back in exchange for those $10 rolls to reinforce the value of the CRH hobby. She at least now always asks..."so how were your coins", when she sees me hunting. ;D

I don't mean to offend anyone I might overlook...some of the active members who I can remember posting pics of monster finds in the 4 years I've been here include: Joad, Mountainman2, Coinmojo, Maine Jim, Golden Silver, TXTim, mistergee...have a look in the archives.

yep I converted my wife into a "silver feind ' when i took $100 in cash and bought a batch of halves that more than doubled it -- due to the good number of silver halfs found in it --she seemed doubtful that it "would work" -- but when I cashed out the silver coins at the coin store later that day --and handed her back the starter $100 and a "extra' $50 to enjoy as she pleased -- with me keeping the rest (about $100 bucks) for future CRHing cash -- she "got it" oh brother did she -- after that she always asks the tellers at our banks got any customer rolled halfs in lately ? ;D

the $100 bucks worth were customer wrapped rolls (CWR often rock --some are old collection turn in by folks turning in a passed away old persons collection fror "paper money at face value-- which is when you really score big time )--that bank used to be a good silver producer and i used to get in 200 a week in halves "brought in" for me but once the bank switched over from wichovia over to wells fargo the silver in the "brought in rolls" just "dried up"-- not a speck in almost $2000 bucks worth checked since then --as dry as "death valley". so its CWR or nothing now. :dontknow: :help:
