Believe it or not it didn't turn out to be a stinken Lincoln but rather a wheat cent, probably from the 40's. The year is eroded but the back is in excellent condition. Unfortunately this wheaty seems to have taken quite the beating. But still a great find and a first wheaty for me. I usually find them in change I receive but not this time. :laughing7: so far 2013 has been a great year for me , especially for finding coins. Enjoy!

Heck yea, more to come now. I know when I started I was just finding new stuff. After my first wheat though it seemed I started finding all kind! Good hunting

If only the coins could talk Oh the story they could tell even though it's beat up it is still special being your first.

Thanks, glad you guys liked it

Where there is wheat there could be silver, go back and check that area low and slow, never know might have snuck by ya.
Congrats, I love wheats!

Thanks, glad you guys like it, I found it near a big tree in my back yard. I'm gonna check there again tomorrow.

I found my first one in my yard also. I found the next two in different places. Funny think is they are all 1941. The year I was born. I will keep them for good luck. I will need it.

Happy hunting.

If you soak it in olive oil, you might be able to read the date, great find

The wheat cent production after WWII was the highest of all wheat mintages. They sure had a lot of recycled shell casings to use. I think 1944 and 1945 were the most-circulated years right after the war. Then another billion or so was produced by Denver in 1956 and 1957.
