Went to a old school for about an hours hunt with the SE. Hunted this school before and got nothing but clad and zinc ??? This school was built in 1919 on the same spot of an older school which was built in the 1800's. I talked to a man that lives next door to the school and he said the place has been hunted a lot in the past. I figured I'd dig some more clad and add it to my pile. So I hit a nickel after digging about 10 pulltabs and some canslaw. Nothing special about the nickel, was a 1997P. I started to hunt around some trees and found more pulltabs and no good signals. So I went to the wall of the school and started to follow it.... solid tone and the crosshairs were right in the penny field. Figured it was another newer penny until I turned it over ;D My first wheatie.

Way to go kid. At a site hunted as much as that one, that is a great find. Maybe theres some wilver left there for ya. Keep at it and good luck!

Thanks everyone! It was a happy moment when I turned the penny over ;D Now I need silver dimes and quarters!

Cartridge cases were salvaged during the war for wheats from 1944-1946, so you can be proud for that to be your first ever wheat cent.

Let us know when you find your first Indian cent!

Nat

It's always a thrill finding your first old coin...This just spurs you on to bigger and better things. Congrats on the find....Hope there's a lot more in your future. Best Wishes :D :D :D :D

If you find a wheat you could have a silver near by. Pound that area hard, and maybe you'll turn up a silver.

WTG,

Keep @ it and HH!!

Uh-oh. Watch out now. You will want to find more of them now that you have found one. I love finding wheats. Haven't found one in almost a month now. :(

Good job
