My first time relic hunting 5/7/23

After practicing for about an hour a day at my local ball park for 2 days I accumulated $2.65. As I am brand new to this hobby I had the day off from work today, I put my newly acquired skill to work. At an undisclosed location in rural NH. I spent the first 3 hours only in the woods only finding an old 22 lead bullet. On the walk back all with 20 mins apart from each as it as just about dark I found these what I believe to be a 19th century button and coin. Is there any experts here who can help me further ID?

KSDirtfisher is correct i believe on the Large Cent., I like finding them :) Let me also welcome you to a very fine forum . I hop[e you enjoy it here :)

OK, just so I'm clear on this story ...

You just got your machine - you only spent a few hours digging clad coins -
then you went out to an old site and dug a Large Cent - WOW !!!
A lot of people in this hobby spend years trying to find their first Large Cent - many other's never find one at all.

Welcome to the forum & congrats on the great finds ! :occasion14:

That is correct. I spent a few days with my newly purchased Atpro in the local park to learn how to id coins as practice. I grew up in rural parts of NH and have several spots in mind to go. Also I might add, I did this with no pine pointer. Still need to get. Pin pointer .

New England is one of the best (or the best) places in the country for Metal Detecting - lot's of old history !
I had family in Maine - made some great finds while I was there hunting around 1700's Cellar Holes.
The Garrett AT Pro is an excellent machine - used by countless thousands of people worldwide.

Good Luck & Good Hunting !

Congrats and welcome from another granite stater. great find on that large cent. I'm still looking for mine but I do have my Flying eagle.

Sweet! Good job.

Congrats on an outstanding first outing with your AT Pro. It is a great machine and I am sure more great finds are in the future for you!
