My first time out MDing ww09.09.06

Went out for the first time ever with my metal detector today. I bought it for my nephew a few years ago but he did not make any use of it and eventually it found it's way into storage till I discovered it lying around last month.

I've been reading this forum for a couple weeks now, and noticed that a park would be a good place to start, seeing as it's public land and I'm not quite ready to ask anyone’s permission to search there property yet.

I only got to search for 45mins because my girl had an appointment I'm apparently her personal taxi (I'm not bitter). I went to a very small park only about 10acres it wasn't even listed as a state park on Vermont's website but its close to where I live so I knew it was there. I dug four holes each an interesting find:

1st hole: a very large shell from a rifle.
2nd hole: the same as the first.
3rd hole: a 1950 wheat penny my first real find.
4th hole: a 1942d wheat penny.

Not a big find for most but for me... yyyyyiiiiiiiiippppppppppppeeeeeeee!!!!
I can't wait to go back there and see what else I can find.

I think my first find ever was a broken pulltab.

You did very well and I'll say this, that park you hunted is awesome! If I dug 4 holes and found what you found at some new site I'd be back to that sucker as quickly as possible.

Those types of easy finds mean really great things are there.

Sounds like I'm headed back there a.s.a.p... if the rain ever stops...
it's so nice an quiet too I didn't see anyone else in the time I was there. I marched straight into the woods which is scary for me cause I'm afraid of ticks... all the finds were near a wall of stone that I found deep in the park.

What ever you do Don't give up. It sounds like you may get some good coins there.. Where there is wheaties there is silver where there is silver
there may be gold or other interesting finds...

Use some Off! bug repellent with deet that will keep the buggers away including "skeeters" LOL

Hey WW, Ive been hunting 6 months, found a few thousand coins & only 3 1/2 weaties (one was cut in half by mower perhaps) So Id say you are off to a great start! Sounds like that park has silver, keep huntin it & let us know what you find!
