You may have found more than you think!

The unclipped penny looks like a possible Indian Head cent. Be gentle cleaning it. One method which has worked for others here is to heat up a small amount of hydrogen peroxide for 40 seconds in a microwave-safe container, then allowing the penny to sit it it for 20 minutes. Next, using a small toothpick, try rubbing the toothpick over the date-segment of the coin only. You should be able to obtain a clear date within 4-5 minutes of careful cleaning. Try dipping the toothpick often to keep the wood wet or at least damp, and don't press down hard.

Do show us what the coin looks like afterwards. And use your own judgement on whether you want to spend the time cleaning the entire coin ... or not.

Either way, welcome to TNet, and thanks for sharing!

Every long journey starts with the first step, you have taken the first step and many more exciting steps WILL follow, good luck :icon_thumright:

Thanks, you got me thinking about that penny im going to clean it and try to find a date

Welcome to the forum! That's a start and there will be worse days, LOL. Good luck cleaning the coin. HH, Mike

after cleaning the Penny's,they were to far gone to see a date :(

Sorry. Sometimes that happens to. So you're out a penny. Unless you are keeping metal bins for recycling?

Are you using a pinpointer? I wouldn't even go out with out one.

You know how they say you can't win the lottery if you don't play? Well you can't find good stuff metal detecting unless you're out there trying. The good stuff will come!

Born Free

i guess i'll keep the penny's just cuz there my first finds.but on a diffrent note i was out hunting and i found a penny, dime and a pice of silver i need to clean it
