Excellent finds, you're off to a good start. Never hunted the scenario you describe, but I would think they would be good so long as fill dirt has not been applied.

Any old place that had human activity is a good place to detect but old schools are one of the best due to all the horseplay. I hunt an old school that is still being used and have found mercuries and barber dimes.

Good luck

I drive by a one room school EVERY day established in 1854! The building is still there! I want to hunt it so bad but it is on the National Register so NO I cannot!

Someone told me they hunted the site before it got on the register and they found 4 barber coins and some buttons. :-(

They would produce great finds. Just make sure they have not been relocated, we have a lot down here in SW Va and most of them have been relocated near library and other historical locations.

Great finds! You're off to an excellent start!

Cheers and HH,

Wonderful finds. My husbands old school house is still standing and we plan to hunt it when the weather gets right. He said he thinks we will find quite a few marbles. Don't toss any marbles away. My MD guy told me today some of them are worth quite a bit of money.

I've hunted an old school house that has been converted to a house. Have not found anything but clad and alot of can slaw and bottle caps. Hopfully the good stuff is to come after all the trash is removed.
