Back once again this morning to the site that yielded the Nova, and the Draped Bust. Spent a lot of time learning how not to dig the hot rocks that litter the site. And after a couple of hours (just got back)... I dug my first Spanish Reale.

I think it is a One Reale (you can easily read "CAROLUS" across the top of the photo), and I also think it may be counterfeit? Rings low 70's on my F75, and it has a few blisters. Also came out in two pieces. But I like it nevertheless. This site is going to entertain me for awhile.

Has a been through the fire look to it. Might account for all the factors that lead you to believe its counterfeit.

Interesting. Hadn't thought about that possibility. Makes sense.

The site has a fair number of square nails and hardware. But the 1850's map shows it as a field. It was likely occupied in the 1700's (which may explain the density of early coins I've pulled in a relatively small radius.

Agreed fire damaged. Looks real enough to me. Congrats

Congratulations! :occasion14:

The date on the Reale is 1802.

Congrats on the silver Real. Even slightly burned it's a great find.

Wouldn't mind seeing the flip side. Not bad at all! Congrats!

It's not always the condition but the fact that you found one. I love finding V and Shield nickels but usually they ate toasted. It's a personal accomplishment. Congrats

Congrats on the first Spanish! I snagged the crazy rare Oak tree threepence but I can't get a cob or real! So weird how this works. Guess I gotta put some time in this fall. Unfortunately the drought is so bad I can't bring myself to dig on a lot of the private property I've had my eye on. Plus it's hard as a rock.

Congrats on your first Spanish silver!!

Tons of these were counterfeited I remember seeing these scattered throughout coin shows in the 70's. Still cool to find no matter what.

Vdi is about correct. Congrats on your first! A real is a real! Beat of luck out there in the future, I'm sure you'll continue to pull out some more goodies!
