Found this1817 Mexico City1/2 reale in the woods at a local park today. Unfortunately I scratched it while digging it out of the frozen ground.

Better to have a ding and in your hands than to still be in the ground. Nice find

Wow!
That's awesome, 462 !
Great job on the recovery.
Without your hard work, that coin would still be lost to society!
..it's tough working in frozen ground... chances are some sort of damage would have occurred no matter how you got it out.
...gives it character... evidence that you really did work for it! :-)
Best

Holy cow! that is so cool, you have to love that AT Pro, nice work swinging that machine. Did you run around doing cartwheels and such like the digger guys on TV? I'd of been shaking and grinning from ear to ear!

Thanks for all the reply's! As for the scratches, the ones on the bust I believe were already there but I can be credited for the one that goes between the E/I. Because the signal came up 78-80 (penny) I probably wasn't as careful as I should have been in my recovery. This stands as a good lesson for me, to always take my time because you never know what you're going to dig-up.

That's a coin that we all would be pleased to find. Congrats on finding your first one.

Congrats on the Spanish silver. That date is near the end of Spanish rule in Mexico.

That is one beautiful coin! NICE! :icon_thumleft: So what did it read on your detector if you can remember? Just curious.

Sweet coin congrats! We've all dinged up a find, just makes you more careful on the next find!
