My First Shield and it's a Crusty one!
Found this 1867 Shield Nickel, my oldest nickel to date. My excitement was fast extinguished with the poor condition of this coin. It is funny how the ground wreaks havoc... the CRUST would not budge. Tried olive oil after hydrogen peroxide.... So after several days I decided to give the electrolysis a try. 700mA for 20 minutes..... what do you think? I could not believe how fast the CRUD came off.... Did I ruin my crusty cridder? I would never try this on a valuable coin, but this was a fun experiment. Thanks for lookin and Happy Hunting.
