I have just about hammered the poor little park to death...and really consider myself lucky to have found the 1918 merc yesterday, so I figured "OK, it's time to get permission to do some private home sites again.
I'd had my eye on a ca 1880 farmhouse for some time and finally mustered the courage to ask permission to swing the coil there. I was there a total of maybe 10 minutes before I found this seated liberty dime.....and in the ensuing 2 hours....with visions of barber coins swimming around in my head....I found absolutely nothing. There is much iron in the ground at this particular place, and the grass is a bit high, making it tiresome to swing the coil.
I figure this dime was churned up when they poured the flagpole pad in 1991 (signed and dated by somebody's finger in the wet concrete), that's exactly 100 years after the dime was minted.....and a neat coincidence.
I'll probably try the place again once the grass is cut....but I'm not as optimistic about the place as I was going in. There has to be a few things there to be found yet.
I'm going to need a few more sites....
