Hello everyone,

My friend Dave and I were searching a private property in pittsburgh Pennsylvania where we have permission of course from the landowner. The owner of the property owns 100+ acres of land that we are welcome to search anytime we want. The terrain is hilly and very mountainous, with old roads and trails. We have searched his property four or 5 times this year. First time we were at his property I found 1941 Washington quarter. The second time I found a 1942 mercury dime. Last few times all I found was gold filled medallion which I was able to straighten out and return it to property owner. My hunting buddy dave found a smooth buffalo nickel, I didn't find any coins that day. This Sunday morning when I went over to daves house in the morning and I was telling him, voicing aloud that I am going to find a seated dime today. Well first signal of the day on my Minelab ctx3030 was a 12-41 in one direction and a 12-44 in the other direction, only 9 inches down was my first seated dime. Unfortunately it's a smooth coin, but I was able to read the date, 1888. Dave asks me what did I find? I said you

Hello from a short drive east. Nice dime! I'm still looking for my 1st seated anything. Congrats.

How u liking the CTX ? I have an Etrac and still wondering if I should upgrade.

I found my first seated anything a couple of weeks ago at a 1946 house. It is an 1875 in fine-extra fine condition. S mint mark. If it was a CC it would be worth quite a bit. A seated dime wasn't even on my radar and I am still shooting for a Barber. I found the dime and ran over to my buddy thinking it was a Mercury at best, and then wiped off the dirt and was floored. The moral is you never know what you are going to find. If you want to check it out, I placed the dime as my Avatar.

Congratulations on a seated coin! Slick or not, it still counts. I have only found one seated dime myself.

Sparky, I have never used an etrac, Before I got the ctx, I had an explorer se, I have found more silver coins and jewelry with my ctx then any other machine. I have found coins at depths that other detectors don't even hear. I don't know if you should upgrade, but I love my ctx3030.

I think someone filed it, looking at it on the side of it you can see scratches, I think someone filed it like alot of coins I have seen. Its also very thin. Anyone have any seated dimes in good condition are they generally thin coins?

It might be worn, but it's seated. I'll take one any day. I was lucky over the past summer to find a seated dime along with two seated quarters and a seated half. I'll take seated any day, unless there are some draped bust to be had : )

Very Cool!!!!!!...Im DYING to find a Seated coin!....I found a Barber Dime that was in that same condition as your coin...and the thing is Paper thin....Congrats !!

Mine has very little wear on it. It appears to be about as thick as a Mercury and it has a reeded edge. I actually thought it was a Mercury until I carefully wiped the face of it.

The cool thing is that I found it under a clothesline that I had went over 3 previous times with my AT Pro. My buddy swore that he went over it with his AT and didn't know why he didn't find it. The seated dime was about 2-3 inches deep and It was a very iffy signal with my CTX. I actually dug an elongated hole before I found it because my signal was jumping because of the trash. Also, about 12 feet away I found a 1925 well worn Mercury dime. Apparently, I had missed both coins with my AT Pro in previous hunts. Crazy thing was that I found a bunch of coins amid the nails under the clothesline (mostly wheats) that I had missed with my AT Pro.

At another well searched house, I spent about an hour and a half and found a silver Roosevelt and Mercury dime along with some wheat cents in an area about 12 x 12' that I had grided before with my my AT Pro. I am not brand or model biased, but I am finding more coins with my CTX.

BTW, dirtfishingdave, sorry if I am stealing your thunder in anyway. I can relate to you finding your dime. This is my first seated anything as well. Congratulations. Last year I found a slick standing liberty quarter on top of the ground and it just makes me more hungry to find a good one. Give it time!
