Hey all. I finally found my first ring! Totally by accident because I kneeled down in the grass on top of it to dig another signal. Detector didn't pick it up.... because it's WOOD!!!!

Arrrrrg!

However it does have a nice script carved into it. Can anyone tell what language that is or what it says? Thanks for your time.

CKF - Cool Knee Find

From the pics looks like it's made from bamboo.
I think it is Japanese, but I'm not an Asian language/writing expert.

I at least am sure, other members here will know.

A ring find is a ring find...No idea what language but I go along with trikikiwi. Looks Japanese.

Oops! I don't think that's a finger ring, but a ring to go around a linen napkin at a table place setting. Could be wrong though? Monty

Looks more like Thia to me.

LOL ok. I don't even want to know how you know that bradyboy...... :-X

I asked a coworker of mine who is Chinese and he wasn't 100% sure but he was fairly certain it is Japanese writting. So thanks for your input guys, now I just got to find someone who can read Japanese....

He maybe it's a Japanese treasure marker to Yama&#%*ta's big hoarde!! Wait till SWR sees this... lol (just kidding guys, dont get your panties in a bunch)

I haven't marked this thread "Solved" as a) Japanese script NOT 100% confirmed. b) I'd like to know what it says. ie "East at Wang Chung's" or "Place napkin here" etc etc

NOT Japanese.

Japanese kanji characters are basically the same as Chinese, although they may be simplified and/or have a different pronunciation. Your Chinese friend would have recognized them.

Japanese also use two additional "syllabary" systems - hiragana for simplified Japanese words and katakana for non-Japanese words. Your characters are neither hiragana nor katakana.

I don't think it's Korean, either, but I don't read Korean.

Ganbatte!

Having lived in Japan for three years, I can tell you that the inscription does not look to be japanese writing. It is closer to thai, meaning it uses a stylized script derived from sanscrit.

I'm not kiddin. Someone with a membership can do a search for Lord of the ring rings or elvish. I just saw one here on another thread somewhere, but his was I think silver.

It's not Asian - more like Arabic.

That is - if it's a language and not some generic design.

That is a really cool ring find!

Nice link Montana, but I noticed they left out Elvish. ;D

We need one of you Charter Members to do a search for "lord of the rings" posts. pretty sure the writting was the same on a different post about a silver "lord of the rings" ring found by a member.
