I've been a member for a while but have yet to post anything. I purchased my first metal detector about 3 weeks ago. It's a Bounty Hunter pioneer 101. I got it at a yard sale for $5! I've been doing a lot of research and saving up to get one but when I seen the pioneer for $5 I had to get it. Anyway, I've been trying to get as much feild time as I can so I can get a feel for the machine and the hobby (I was hooked before I even got one, now that I have one the hooks are deeper!) I've dug about $4 worth of clad, 10 lbs worth of iron and about 20 coke cans. Yesterday I went to the same feild I've been going to since I got the detector. It has two baseball ball feilds, a football/soccer feild with a track around it and is right next to a middle school. I took my 8 year old sister along and we started searching. We dug some newer coins here and there, some trash and cans then we found a small metal case (makeup?) With a really cool flower design on top and seems to be copper. We searched a while longer and in the sand by the benches we dug up a small silver ring! This is my first silver and first ring and it cleaned up pretty nice. It's nothing spectacular but I couldn't have been happier! My little sister and I had a great time and I will be enjoying this hobby for many, many years to come!
I would also like to thank everyone for the great advice this site provides!
I cut plugs and replace everything just as if I was never there. I keep all the trash I find and dispose of it properly! First thing this site taught me!
Thanks again,
James.
