Hi Folks - pretty excited to be here and have just started detecting,
Was out today and found this - it is not rusted so not iron and the top can screw off. Any help identifying this is appreciated.
Thanks in advance and looking forward to participating.

take care

Technical difficulties. We will be right back. Welcome to Tnet.

Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls. Looks like maybe a part from a pump or some type of a prop.

Welcome from Northern Virginia :skullflag:

Hi Folks...

I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Patrick! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) so if you ask a question, etc. - members may have more success helping you (your location may help, etc.)...

looks like the inside steam-water mixer from a steam jetter. I used to rebuild these. The whole assembly injected steam into a water stream to heat it.

Hi all thanks for the warm welcome and for an insight into what I found. Knowing this I will now be able to search the web for more info,
Funny thing is last night before I went to bed I thought I would also try google search - the best fit was a vase :laughing7:

VPnavy I have also updated my profile.
Also I found this near an old cottage in the Scottish area of Dumfries and Galloway.

Thanks again for everything and making time for me. This site will most probably be my best ever find :icon_thumleft:

Welcome from Michigan! You are in a great place for detecting ancient artifacts! Keep us posted. Watch the series called "Detectorists" on Netflix if you haven't already seen it!

looks like the tail fins of a mortar

Hi again - gunntekk1 you were spot on! Last night when I saw your post I immediately googled mortar tail fins and happy days!!! It felt so great to find something from WW2 - now I know what those guys on youtube experience when they have a good find :)
SD51 - I had to laugh when I saw your post about the detectorists - I am not a fan of tv comedy but I look at it just because :happysmiley:

I am heading up to Scotland for a week around the middle of Oct to do some detecting and prospecting in the rivers. Can't wait.

Again thank you to you all.

patrick

your welcome have fun

Great find welcome to the addiction.

Welcome to tnet also from michigan, If you have any questions or need some tips Ill do my best to assist Tommy

That is the tail of an HE Mortar bomb. WWII I'd say. Cool find!

Hey Tommy and all of you thanks for making me feel so welcome. I just hope I can contribute at some point.
And I needed a pinpointer so I purchased a Tek Point pulse. Thought it might be good for prospecting in the river and being waterproof.
Anyways take it easy from surprisingly still sunny London

Welcome sir!

Great first find, and good ID. This place is a wealth of information and experience shared....all for the price of a post!

Welcome to Tnet, fellow Brit.:occasion14:

Hi Peruna - thanks and so true. I sit reading posts and I am fascinated by both the finds and depth of knowledge shared. Thanks Crusader I'll raise a pint to that :occasion14:
And Westfront thank you - the link in your post was great and the pic above - WOW!!!

thanks folks

Didn’t they used to make something like this for cap gun caps? You put caps in it and throw the nose to the ground.
