done very little detecting since early 80's. getting fired up for some this year. After spending lots of money trying to put together a nice carrying set-up and after several differant tool holders I settled on a multipal tool carrying electritions belt/bag. Got off e-bay for about $35 (can't recall amount) and darkened it black through the vinager method. all was well until today to go out. I imediately kept hanging up my knife and PP on stuff just moving around home here before even going out- the outer knife pocket for gigger is to far out from the body. I took off and threw one one of the many small tool sheaths I had bought over the winter and out the door I went. Their is a early 1900's area in woods across from my house that was a rendering plant or something like that turn of century. 30 years ago I found a huge 'S' wrench down their buried..about 2ft long with multipal square nut cut-outs. I heard a train use to go down there way back then. NOW..Today I tried to get down there but the shrubs and tangly bushes and trees made it impossible to reach. after stumbling and fighting branches for 1/2 hour to get 40 feet in..I headed back out. Time I got back to house my knee pad was around ankle..my heavy belt was below my rump (like the teens wear their pants these days) and no doubt steam coming out my ears!, especually after I dropped my digger/knife point first on my upper ankle. I've decided I am going with smaller pouches and smaller digger carrier and take the minimal weight next time..I may have to 'cut' my way down there this summer maybe (but is accually county land)- I won't give up..just be bit smarter next time.

Welcome to my world crusty metal. I did pretty much the same thing when I started out. I had so much crap strapped around my waist - I could barely bend over to dig without leaving a pile of tools!

I still have the belt loaded up but now only take what I think I will absolutely need. If I need more - I mark the location and go back to the car.

Welcome back to the hunt!

After wearing belts of gear and loosing half the stuff I put in them, I relegated an old satchel camera bag
that I could wear across my shoulder to store my gear. It's worked great. Now, the knee-pad is a different
animal all together LOL.

Good luck & HH

LoL! That's some funny s_it!

I think I would've had to drink a bottle of Jack after an experience like that!!

my wife took one look at the bag I set her up with and laughed. She uses this little six pack type soft cooler to hold every thing, tools and finds. At first I laughed. But dam...it seems to work really good and,"balances" her.
go figure.

Sounds like you had most of the equipment except for the most important. A machete :laughing7:

I tried getting down an old rail rd that led to a quarry last summer.

It proved impossible( impassible) I found
an old rd and did manage to get in . Never did find where they loaded the train.
Is there something about tracks that grow thick brush?

LOL, sounds like enough to make you wrap something around a tree. Personally I detect so light that I rarely carry a bag. I slip my trowel in my back pocket and my finds in the front pocket of my pants.
