I dug this out of a local park that is next to a military fort where the Iowa Dragoons trained and lived as early pre-civil war times. A member of my club has dug a ton of eagle buttons out of here and I was jealous so I went button hunting today and found one! Only mine is big and plain.

I know it is nothing to special but I was hoping that somebody can tell me more about it. It measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter and has no markings. Does anybody know age on this. Thanks for any help! Hope everybody got out today. Thanks and Happy Hunting.

Eric

No I have never hunted River View Park. In fact I dont know if it exists anymore. I did not find any park by that name on a map. Where was it located? I will gladly take some old pics, send them right over.

Thanks,

Eric

It is actually called the Kiwana's nature island now. It was a Amusement park from 1913 to 1978, I actually remember going to this park when I was a kid, it was great fun!! If memory serves me it is off of 2nd ave, north of Hickman, you will go back behind this industrial area, where there are some trucking docks. If you google it you will find it. And go to the website Riverview Park. com, and it will give you Pics and layouts of the park. Over the years I have found no less then 1300 coins there, and 1/2 of them were silver. But I guarantee you will find more. If you need any help on pinpointing old spots where to look let me know. HH

I've been there. I got skunked but of coarse I did not really know what I was doing back then. I will have to go back and check it out again. Thanks for the info. I might be PMing you to pinpointold spots where to look.

Theres really no telling about the button, other than it is more than likely civilian in nature and not military. I dig alot of buttons in a few spots that are relatively the same, but I have never seen the shank, now that I have seen one, its easy to see why they break off so easy.
